| Verticle Poems The intention is that these sculptures be clear yet enigmatic at the same time -- not obviously understood. The pieces are simple enough that the meaning can change as we change. They are both questions and answers. art making can be a stepping on stones, carefully but deliberately to deep knowing, to memory. the rutual crafting of a web -- spinning to the intuitive, to the unconscious. each immediate stroke with paint or clay-- can connect with something eternal. portraits of human circunstance-- light, buoyant - or burdened, permanent. images snatched in the early dawn-- silhouettes -- from the subconscious, where images are mysterious. sculptures can be three -- dimensional affirmations. they may portray an ambiguous experience, but they are assertions of aliveness. they rejoice in the dilemma of life's predicament. as a gathering of ideas -- each piece stands independent. together they are a community. both a single circle and part of a larger endlessness -- the unfolding of a many-layered poem, continuing to quietly speak. peter schifrin - 6/18/02 |
