ETTA DEIKMAN
I work in the realm of new discovery and the brush is my extension.
The stroke is personal. Each brush mark is distinctive, chosen, intuitive,
has its own message. Even as the work evolves from this it becomes
imperative to be clearly conscious in the act. Thought, action,
brush, become one. Surprising relationships occur, moving towards
complex levels. My intention is to trust, to remain open to new
possibilities and to honor that in my work.

I am a staunch proponent of abstract painting. There is more possibility
for mulitiple, individual, and personal meanings in nonrepresentational
imagery. Paradoxically, the subject is apparent -- right there in front of
one. There is no place to hide. I find that daring, a bit daunting, and
very exciting.
